The 1st Alarm Assignment was sent at around 1030 hours to Latrobe Pallet Company on Route 981 for a reported pallet yard fire. Heavy smoke could be seen from a distance by responding units. 71 Safety officer arrived and reported a large area of pallets on fire endangering a building.
71 Engine 7 arrived and laid a five inch supply line from Route 981 up the driveway to the rear of the building and began providing suppression a exposure protection. 71 Assistant Chief established command on the north-eastern side of the building. 113 Engine 1 hooked into the supply line and established a relay from 71 Engine 6, who was bringing in the hydrant from Holiday Acres. 113 Tower-Ladder set up on the north-eastern side of the building along with 41 Engine 6. 114 Engine, 77 Engine, 77 Tanker, 113 Fire Police, PSP, and Mutual Aid EMS also assisted.
The fire consumed approximately 1 to 1 1/2 acres of stacked pallets as well as a tractor trailer box which was used for storage.
